5 Male Celebrity Hats That Took Fashion by Storm

They fill two different functions, hats do. One is to keep body heat from leaving the body through the head. Since people generally wear clothes, this is the only unexposed part of the anatomy that allows for the release of body heat. A hat serves as a way to keep it inside your body.

Secondly, they are a way to show off personality and express some individual style. They are an accessory that is not easy to pull off, however. From custom adjustable hats to bucket hats to knit caps, there is a certain hat style that can work for you, but just as many that will not.

It can take seeing the example set by a male celebrity to understand how a hat that is on a rack at the store can look when presented correctly. In this article, we will go over some of the hats that are available that some celebrities have made a statement with that could possibly work for you, too.

1 - The bucket hat

Carmelo Anthony, the basketball star, is known for his love of hats. Many are worn more to shock or start a conversation, like when he wore his Elmer Fudd style hunting cap, but often they are worn because they look good on him.

One in particular that works well that he wears and is becoming copied by many regular people is the bucket hat. It is a very versatile hat that can be made of many different materials and can come in a few different styles.

They tend to come down fairly far on the head which creates a sort of bucket effect, hence the name. The original ones were made of wool to keep fishermen warm when out at sea. These days they are worn all year but work best as a way to keep your head warm while also looking good.

They look very stylish in denim and even canvas and still manage to retain their warming properties. Crochet bucket hats are becoming quite the rage, as well.

2 - Trucker hats

For decades, trucker hats were popular with, well, truckers. It was a rural and backwoods type of fashion that worked for people that had absolutely no fashion sense whatsoever.

Then, they started to trend in an ironic way. Not that truckers were being made fun of per se, but many people decided it would be funny to wear such a fashion faux pas. Then, celebrities clued in and it became a fashionable thing without a hint of irony at a certain point.

They are certainly comfortable as many are made out of mesh. This makes them an ideal accessory during the summer when you are able to let your body heat out without trapping it and overheating. This was the original purpose of the hats, to begin with.

Nowadays they come in many different fabrics but the general style remains the same. They are usually stiff-brimmed and have some kind of logo associated with trucking or auto parts. Even the logos of some truck stop franchises are common and popular.

3 - Newsboy hat

Anybody from Boston certainly recognizes the newsboy cap as it is a wildly popular accessory. The only difference is there they call it a Scully cap. Essentially it’s the style of cap that newsboys in the early 1900s used to wear. They now have a home on top of many male celebrities’ heads.

Usually made of wool, it is a brimmed cap but the material on the top extends all the way to the edge of the brim. They have an old-timey feel without feeling ironically retro. They serve the purpose of keeping your head warm since they are made of sturdy material but also fit within a certain fashion sensibility. Many actors like Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio have made the newsboy cap an essential part of their wardrobe.

4 - The Stormy Kromer

Ok, Red Green isn’t exactly an A List celebrity, but he does have a certain following and made a particular type of hat that was popular with men living where the winters are frigid popular with others as well.

That hat is called a Stormy Kromer and is similar to a hunting cap that is made of wool and generally has a flannel style to it. These days they have taken on a certain cult-like status and are worn both ironically and unironically.

They look slightly funny because they have ear flaps which are generally kept buttoned up to the top of the cap. Then if it gets cold, you can unlatch them and tie them down over your ears and even under your chin if they are long enough.

5 - Beanies

The knit cap or beanie is a winter essential even if you aren’t trying to make a fashion statement. In northern climes, you can’t really be out and about in the winter without covering your head and ears. A knit cap is the perfect way to stay warm.

It’s also a fashion statement with just about every male celebrity. They are even worn in the summer and indoors as they have become such an iconic fashion accessory.

They come in a million varieties from tight to the skull like how Leon in “The Professional” wore his, to slouched in the back. There is no wrong way to wear them and just about every male celebrity wears one.

How to wear a hat

The rules of hat-wearing depend highly on the type of hat. However, the one main rule with wearing a hat is to make sure it fits the style of what you’re wearing. It should be a compliment to your clothes, so wearing a beanie in a three-piece suit is not going to work.

Likewise, it should actually fit. Get your head measured before you buy a hat so you always pick the size that will look right on your head. Ill-fitting hats are a major faux pas that many men make.
