The amount of blue light our eyes are exposed to can have a significant impact on our health. With the introduction of smartphones, tablets, and other devices that emit blue light, this exposure has increased dramatically. We spend more time than ever looking at screens in front of us, which means we're subjecting ourselves to harmful effects like eye strain, headaches, and even cancer! This blog post will outline some simple ways to protect yourself from these effects by reducing your exposure to blue light. Here is the list.

Get the Right Eyeglasses

One of the easiest and most affordable ways to protect yourself from blue light is wearing special glasses. These glasses to stop blue light block out 100% of ultraviolet, infrared, and harmful blue light, so your eyes don't have to work as hard when you're looking at a screen in front of you. If this isn't enough protection for you, anti-reflective lenses also reduce the amount of blue light your eyes take in.

When purchasing eyeglasses, ensure that they block the full spectrum of visible light and are anti-reflective. One way to know this is by buying glasses from reputable stores or eye care professionals. You can also ask for a blue light test to make sure they effectively block out the harmful rays.

Increase Brightness on your Devices

Blue light is more intense when viewed against dark backgrounds, making it an easy way to reduce exposure without changing how you use your devices. Most smartphones and tablets allow you to change the brightness of your device. Increasing this will make it harder for the blue light to reach your eyes as more of it is absorbed by the bright backgrounds and colors.

However, there are also side effects of using too much light on your devices, like sleep disturbance and eye strain. It's best to find a balance between the two until you fully understand more about blue light exposure before drastically changing your habits.

Replace Bulbs with LEDs

If you're serious about protecting yourself from harmful blue light, then replacing bulbs in your home is an easy way to do it. Many of the bulbs we use in our homes emit blue light, so replacing them with LED bulbs will reduce your exposure to this harmful part of sunlight. The best places to start are in rooms where you spend a lot of time, like your living room or bedroom.

Also, you must replace the bulbs with ones that emit a full spectrum of light so as not to cause any other changes such as sleep disturbance and eye strain. If possible, let your room have as much natural light as possible by opening your blinds or curtains. You can also use lamps with built-in LEDs in these rooms to make sure you get the light exposure needed for good health.

Turn off Blue Light Settings on Your Devices

Some of the default settings on our devices allow them to emit more blue light than needed. These include things like "Night Shift," which is built into Apple products and automatically turns down the brightness when it's dark out. You can ensure that these features are turned off while using your device by going through the Settings menu and changing the settings to your liking. This includes changing it back to a higher setting when you're done using it for the day and want less blue light exposure from your device.

Some apps can help you control these features, like f.lux or Night Shift which make sure all are turned off at once. It's important to note that some apps also reduce the amount of blue light on your devices at night, which might cause sleep disturbances and eye strain if you use these features for a long time.

Limit the Use of Technological Gadgets

One of the best ways to protect yourself from blue light is by limiting your use of technological gadgets in general. This includes smartphones, laptops, tablets, and e-readers which can cause sleep disturbance if used for too long at night or in dark rooms.

Start by setting a time limit for when you should stop using these devices before it gets dark. It's also essential to ensure that you're not using too much light on your devices, like by increasing the brightness of your device or reducing the amount of natural sunlight coming in. If possible, it's best to avoid using these gadgets for extended periods near bedtime as they'll have more time to keep you up at night.

By using these few simple tips, you can ensure that your eyes are protected from the harmful effects of blue light on your body. A better understanding of this part of the light will ensure that we live healthier lives as technology grows and changes over time.
