Over the last two decades, the number of women seeking breast enhancement procedures has increased tremendously. In fact, in 2017 alone, there were over 300,000 breast augmentation procedures.
Consequently, there’s been a lot of wrong information and misconceptions disseminated by well-intentioned but uninformed people. If you’re thinking of doing a breast augmentation surgery and are worried about possible issues, this post will address some possible concerns that you might have.
This way, you’ll be better informed while moving forward with the decision to upgrade your body.
You Can Talk to Your Plastic Surgeon
While it’s okay to research everything about breast augmentation surgery, the reality is that some things are better discussed with the specialist. Every patient is different, and some details will only come together after your consultations.
If you have any questions, write them down before the first consultation. Some of the most common questions that people have include:
- The procedure’s steps and methods
- How much the surgery will cost
- The best implant type and size for the patient –sometimes, patients find that they can get a bigger size than they initially thought
- The recovery process
To learn everything you can about the procedure online, but keep an open mind until you’ve actually discussed your breast augmentation surgery in detail with the surgeon.
You May Be Uncomfortable After the Procedure
Contrary to what you may have seen on TV, you may be uncomfortable for a few days to a couple of weeks after the procedure. This is common with most surgical procedures.
Thankfully, the recovery isn’t as difficult as some other procedures, but still, your breasts may feel tight, heavy, tender, painful, hot, and even uncomfortable for a while. These symptoms tend to only last 3-5 days after the operation.
However, the plastic surgeons will give you some mild pain relief medications for the pain –if any– and give you adequate post-procedure instructions. Most people can return to work within days of the surgery –although we recommend taking at least a week off to allow you to rest and recover properly. If you need to do some aggressive workouts, wait until after six weeks.
Results Aren’t Instant
It takes a while before your breast implants “settle fully” into your breast tissues. In fact, the average period is six months –this is the best time to take those after-surgery photos.
So even if your new implants feel or look unnatural, don’t worry about it. They will eventually integrate properly and look natural, and the scars will fade. If you have any concerns, you can always mention them to your surgeon, as they’ll be there for your aftercare.
Prepare for the New Changes
Even though you’ve been thinking about and planning for it, the truth is that it’ll take some time before you’ll get used to your new breast shape and size.
Your body is bound to look and feel different for a while. This is perfectly natural given that, unlike natural bodily processes that occur over time, this is sudden.
So allow for some feelings of heaviness in the chest area, being occasionally surprised by how great your body looks, and more attention from folks. Oh, also remember to get new bra sizes!
