MAC Soft and Gentle Mineralize Skinfinish Review

After the Contouring-Craze, the latest hype that we have seen all around is highlighting and strobing, made popular by social media stars such as Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian, and numerous beauty gurus and bloggers.

The trend of highlighting is definitely here to stay, as it works its charm for all four seasons round the year, and can go with a no-makeup daytime look to a full on glamorous nighttime face.

With the highlighting and strobing craze at its peak for the past few seasons, one can easily find a variety of options in the market to satisfy their longing.

Be it cream highlighters, powders or liquids, more and more brands are coming up with individual products and palettes to get your glow on, and even popular makeup artists and Youtube sensations have launched their own palettes!

Out of the plethora of new and old, high-end and drug-store products we see in the market, few products have really made their mark, and are here to stay as cult classics.

One such highlighter is offered by MAC, and is the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish, which is a slow-baked, luxurious powder with a velvety soft feel that gives a radiant glow to the face and body.

The MAC Mineralize Skinfinish that I picked out is the 'Soft & Gentle', described as a gilded peach bronze which also leans on warm beige to sheer gold, and offers a luminous glow to the skin.

Soft & Gentle comes from MAC's permanent range, and comes in a dome-shaped compact with a magnetic lid that clasps securely. (The magnetic clasp is the newer launch from MAC).

MAC's Mineralize Skinfinish boasts of the 77-Mineral Complex along with Vitamin E, and the 10g compact comes with a price tag of $33, which isn't too heavy on the pocket as the product is going to last for ages!

In the pan, the Soft & Gentle may give off a very frosty metallic vibe, however, it is a very universal highlighter that is not at all metallic or sharp; though is classified as a warm-toned highlighter for medium to dark skin tones, works wonder on pale and fair tones as well.

MAC Soft & Gentle's claim to fame is its being so universally flattering that you need this beauty in your collection, no matter your complexion leans on the fair, medium or dark tone.

It gives a great colour pay-off, a gentle swirl in the pan can add a luminous sheer gold glow to the skin, which can be intensified easily.

A lot of people, including me, have regarded the MAC Soft & Gentle as their Holy Grail highlighter, and the reason being that though it appears to have a shimmery texture, it smoothly applies on the face not as chunks of glitter but a 'soft and gentle' sheen.

With its soft sparkling, less shimmery sheen, it won't end up making you look like a disco-ball, but you will certainly stand out in the crowd with your irresistible glow on!

Another reason that it works so well on all skin tones is that it doesn't have a white base, and can be easily worked as a highlighting blush or an actual highlighter to add glow to the high points on your face and decolletage.

The dusty powder need a careful hand to work with, and I would suggest to start off with a little amount and work your way to build up your glow as per your desire.

On my combination to oily skin, over foundation and setting powder, the MAC Soft & Gentle lasts nearly six hours, and not only looks good in person, comes out as amazing in photographs as well!

There may be dupes for the MAC Soft & Gentle in the market, but one use of the original, and you will never look back! It is a must-have, one of the best highlighters available in the market!
